Will tonight break the streak?

The struggling ace takes the mound in his old home ballpark tonight in Chicago.

The Red Sox (14-18) look to overcome last night’s walk-off loss when they square off against the White Sox (14-15) behind old Chisox stater Chris Sale (0-5, 6.30 ERA) tonight in Chicago (8:10 p.m., NESN).

Sale is the biggest disappointment this season on a team full of them, but maybe a trip to the South Side is exactly what he needs to set himself right. I’m grasping at straws, but things have to turn around for him eventually; why not tonight? Other than the facts Tzu-Wei Lin (playing center!) and Sandy León is playing at all, I can’t think of a good reason the Sox can’t put some good wood on starter Reynaldo López (2-3, 6.03 ERA) who’s barely been better than Sale this year. Hopefully Lin can acquit himself well in center — Jackie Bradley Jr. certainly could use the day off, but his glove was still his glove, and it will still be missed.

Rafael Devers is still in the lineup after last night’s fielding snafu; let’s see if he can atone at the plate. The White Sox have little in the way of substantive changes since yesterday, so let’s skip the pleasantries and skip ahead to getting the death-machine lineup going again. If Lin and León can’t spark you, who can?
