Massachusetts General Hospital has unveiled the first detailed images of its planned $1 billion expansion, a project slated to add 1.1 million-square-feet of space to the state’s biggest hospital.

The Cambridge Street project was announced in January, as MGH seeks to expand to accommodate growing volume and replace outdated beds with changing technology and shifting consumer demand. The hospital has said it hopes to begin construction by 2020 and finish by 2026.
