Ian Hunter has spent nearly four years trying to solve what he calls the “grand challenge” of owning a small distillery: how to get people to buy high-quality liquor.
The problem is two-fold. Unlike beer, wine and cider, hard alcohol is not usually consumed by itself, making high-end liquor a hard sell to anyone who will augment the taste anyway. Add to that the fact that craft liquor isn’t a cheap experiment.
