After three years of clinical and business turmoil, Merrimack Pharmaceuticals is largely closing up shop and laying off the rest of its employees.

Merrimack (Nasdaq: MACK), founded in 2000, has been developing treatments for breast, pancreatic and ovarian cancers. The company has shelved multiple drug candidates over the last three years due to safety issues and disappointing response rates.
